On 8 December 2015, the Chair of Energy Economics of the UDE organized a visit to the waste incineration plant in Essen-Karnap.
Together with 18 students, the visit began with an introductory lecture on the history of the power plant and aspects of technology as well as on the future outlook. The subsequent tour of the power plant provided insights into all areas of operation. The first station was the waste bunker. On one side the waste collection vehicles were able to unload their cargo into the bunker, while on the other side the garbage was thrown into the boiler with a six meter wide claw. After a look at the generator, turbine and boiler, we went to the heart of the power plant, the control room. Following the tour, all remaining questions were answered in detail in the meeting room.
